First Stages Of Planning

With any event the first stages may feel overwhelming due to so many options, opinions from others, and Pinterest. Don't let any of this discourage you! I repeat do not let any of this discourage you!

Options: Use these to your advantage and play the fields. See what you feel is best for what you are looking for. While keeping the following things in consideration:

  •  Budget
  • Timeframe
  • Design Concept
  • Availability

Opinions: Depending on the event and who is giving input set some boundaries. When you are planning something as monumental as a wedding  you can set some major boundaries with your family and your future in laws. Don't worry there is a polite way to do so. Just be respectful when setting these boundaries.

Pros to opinions:

  • You get to gain other peoples' opinions and ideas without paying for them.
  • They are a fresh set of eyes and can shed light on an area you may not have considered or forgot about.

Cons to opinions:

  • You feel obligated to take their opinion or idea and use it in the event.
  • You don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by telling them you don't agree or feel that's the route you are taking.
  • You are overwhelmed with even more ideas and input when you already aren't sure where to start.

Pinterest Let's face it everyone can get on Pinterest for what may feel like 5 minutes and in all actuality it is 5 hours {oops}!

Pros to Pinterest:

  • This can be a great starting place to gain insight on color schemes, themes, and locations.
  • You can get inspiration for the event and even find what you don't want
  • You can learn how to do a few projects yourself and save some $$

Cons to Pinterest:

  • You may feel overwhelmed or get even more confused as to what one path you want to head down.
  • You may see some AMAZING ideas and concepts and have unrealistic expectations.
  • The cons to projects~ overloading your todo list with projects and then in the end not having time to complete all of the projects. Or lets face it we've all had some Pinterest fails and this is not a time you want to experience one of these fails.

The first stages you should set your boundaries, budget, and see what time frame you have. This will help make some decisions and in what order to make the decisions.

I'd take a picture of mine, but let's just say it's been well loved :)

Another huge lifesaver would be my Rifle Paper Co. notebooks that I would keep with me at ALL times to right down any ideas I stumbled upon or impromptu brainstorming sessions I had. You never know when a good idea will surface.
